6% Molybdenum Ultra-Austenitic Stainless Steel for Extreme Chloride & Marine Environments.
At Falcon Valves and Flanges Pvt. Ltd., we engineer and manufacture high-performance SMO 254 (UNS S31254) ball valves specifically designed for severe chloride environments. While standard 316L stainless steel quickly fails due to pitting and crevice corrosion in seawater or bleaching chemicals, and duplex steels can struggle with embrittlement at temperature extremes, SMO 254 offers an ideal combination of excellent workability, high mechanical strength, and superior resistance to localized corrosion.
๐ ๏ธ Why Choose SMO 254? (The 6% Moly Advantage)SMO 254 is a high-alloy austenitic stainless steel. Its specific chemical formulation includes $19.5\%\text{ to }20.5\%$ Chromium, $17.5\%\text{ to }18.5\%$ Nickel, and crucially, $6.0\%\text{ to }6.5\%$ Molybdenum along with Nitrogen additions.
Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number (PREN): SMO 254 boasts a $\text{PREN} \ge 42$, placing it well above standard stainless steels ($\text{PREN} \approx 25$) and aligning its performance with premium nickel superalloys at a more cost-effective price point.
Immunity to Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC): The high nickel and molybdenum content provides outstanding resistance to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking in hot halide solutions.
Zero Bio-Fouling Degradation: Resistant to micro-pitting caused by marine organisms in brackish or stagnant coastal water.

Falcon SMO 254 ball valves are widely deployed across industries dealing with aggressive halide chemistry:
Desalination & Water Treatment: High-pressure reverse osmosis (RO) piping systems, brine rejection lines, and seawater intake headers.
Pulp & Paper Bleaching: Critical isolation lines handling chlorine dioxide ($ClO_2$), sodium hypochlorite, and aggressive recycling bleach filtrates.
Offshore Oil & Gas: Seawater cooling systems, firewater mains, ballast water piping, and splash zone process equipment.
Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD): Power plant scrubbers where sulfur dioxide gases dissolve into high-chloride acidic wastewater.
Marine Exhaust Gas Cleaners (Scrubbers): Resisting hot, corrosive wash-water generated from cleaning low-sulfur marine engine exhaust on cargo vessels.
Fugitive Emissions Prevention: Outfitted with live-loaded chevron packing rings conforming to ISO 15848-1 protocols to prevent external leaks.
Anti-Blowout Stem & Anti-Static Grounding: Mechanical safety measures prevent stem ejection under sudden pressure spikes, while grounding springs dissipate static electricity built up by fast-flowing media.
Fire-Safe Certified: Rigorously engineered to comply with API 607 / ISO 10497 standards, ensuring fluid containment even during an active facility fire.
Actuator Ready: Integrated ISO 5211 top-mounting pads enable direct connection to pneumatic, electric, or hydraulic actuators without needing bulky external brackets.
